Gratitude and Giving and Receiving

Blessed are those that can give without remembering and receive without forgetting.

I wrote the following a couple of years ago…

The opening quote reminded me of a time in my life many years ago.

The summer before my senior year in high school was a very tough summer. I had a bad case of mononucleosis which kept me down for two months, and as soon as all restrictions were taken off of me, I broke my leg playing basketball. Which led to surgery and another month in bed.

A friend of my dad heard about my streak of bad luck and gave him a twenty-dollar bill to give to me so I could purchase something that would cheer me up. Twenty dollars was a lot of money in 1976.

I’ve never forgotten that kind gesture, and I’ve passed it on many times over the years.

How about you? What kind of gestures have you received from others? Have you passed them on?

Blessings reside in how we give and how we receive.

Luke 6:38, “Give, and it will be given to you.  Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap.  For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
