Reflection
Learning how to stay sober one day at a time was a daunting task in the early stages of recovery. I was so confused and full of fear, and the last thing I needed was to make my life more complicated than it already was.
A valuable piece of advice I was given during early recovery was KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid or Keep it Super Simple. In other words, don’t overthink, overreact, or “over” anything. Keep things simple, stay the course, and stay in today.
It worked!
I have found the simpler I keep things, the more I am filled with peace.
Additional “keep it simple” quotes…
“Peace is found in the simplest of things.” ~JMeyer
“A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone.” ~Thoreau
“Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication.” ~Leonardo Da Vinci
“Simplicity is ultimately a matter of focus.” ~Ann Voskamp
Luke 12:15, “And he said to them, ‘Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.'”
Journal your thoughts:
What am I grateful for today?
In what way(s) will I bring light to the world today?
What will I deny myself to draw closer to God and gain more peace in my life today?
Prayer:
God, I offer myself to Thee—To build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always! Amen.
