A God of Possibilities

It's the possibility that keeps me going, not the guarantee.

— Nicholas Sparks —

Flashback

Back in August of 1987, when I was about two weeks sober, reality hit me square in the face as I came to the conclusion I would never practice pharmacy again.

My addiction disorder had turned me into a thief and a liar, and my entire professional future was in the hands of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

As much as the thought of losing my Pharmacy license killed me, I began having thoughts of what jobs I could work to take care of my family once I got out of jail. I knew I was projecting, but I honestly saw no possibilities in maintaining my pharmacy license.

Both of my AA sponsors kept telling me to put my future in God’s hands and focus on doing the next right thing daily.

I listened as I began to turn my future over to God on at least a daily basis.

After a couple of years, all charges were dropped against me, and I continued my career as a pharmacist, and the rest is history.

Facts

From the world’s point of view, I was certain that I was guaranteed to lose my license.

From God’s point of view, He obviously saw possibilities that I was unable to fathom.

The biggest lesson I learned through all of this is God’s reality is not the same as our reality. I quit paying attention to the world’s “limits” and “guarantees” many years ago.

Today I focus on possibilities because of Him.

I humbly present this story as His representative for those who don’t believe His words in Matthew 19:26, “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (NIV)
