Reflection
About thirteen years ago, one of my best friends took his life.
That horrible event shook me to my core.
That grief-wrought period in my life caused me to dive deeply into reflection about all aspects of my being.
The one thing I kept going back to was the brevity of life.
Joe’s decision came less than two months after we had each turned fifty years old.
In that moment of my life journey, I sadly came to grips with the fact that I was running out of time. I was not going to live forever. I was closer to the finish line than I was the starting line.
Less than a year later, I walked away from my professional life. The only professional life I ever knew–a professional life that spanned three decades.
Except for a brief moment here and there, I’ve never looked back.
Thirteen years later, I’m living life with an urgency like never before. So my slogan for 2022 is Festina Lente (Make haste slowly) because I want to do so much, but I must be careful not to get ahead of myself.
This past week, I’ve been virtually attending Tony Robbins’ “Ultimate Breakthrough” event to add tools to my toolbox in helping those I coach dream more, be more, and live in the light more.
Enough about me and my damn birthday and what I’m doing.
I’m “old” already.
But,
…to my dying breath, I will challenge all of you to do all you can to take your life to the next level.
What’s God nudging you to do?
What pain in the world can you help comfort?
Where can God use your strengths, gifts, and life experiences to add beauty to a sometimes gloomy and dreary-looking world?
Don’t wait.
You are running out of time.
I always write from experience.
Psalm 90:12, “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.”
