September Renewal – Aiming High

All who have accomplished great things have had a great aim, have fixed their gaze on a goal which was high, one which sometimes seemed impossible.

Reflection

It’s daybreak as I sit on my deck at Serenity Acres taking in the wonderment of God’s work.

One of my hummingbird friends just stopped by for its breakfast. My days of spending time with my hummingbird friends are numbered as we grow closer and closer to autumn.

The opening quote and the beauty of my surroundings transported my mind to a couple of early morning thoughts:

Nature is so amazing.

God’s power is so amazing.

Our lives can be amazing if we so choose.

When reviewing Swett’s quote I quickly thought, “The coolest accomplishments in my life came from shooting high; from venturing way beyond my comfort zone. There is no harm in aiming high because even if I don’t get there, my life-altitude is much higher than when I started.”

Almost forty years ago, I can recall a time where I pictured the little corner drugstore where I worked becoming a nationally respected entity. Twenty years later that picture became a reality.

Fact…

That picture that became reality didn’t just happen. It took an abundance of work and constant focus on what we needed to do in order to get there. What’s crazy is when we “arrived” it wasn’t that big of a deal to me as I was focused on new ways to help us continue to reach an even higher altitude.

Keys

Albeit redundant, the keys to achieving your goals:

Plan – A dream/goal remains a dream until it is put into writing. Putting your dream or goal in writing is the first step in creating a PLAN to achieve it. When you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Effort – Turning your dream/goal into reality requires a commitment to putting forth consistent and focused EFFORT toward the execution of your plan. Nothing great in life happens without working hard.

Attitude – Your chances of achieving your dream are exponentially increased if you believe you will achieve it. Always remember that your ATTITUDE determines your altitude in life.

Community – Nothing great in life happens by doing it alone. The chances of achieving your dream expand as your COMMUNITY of positive mentors and coaches expand. You become the average of the five people you spend the most time with…and yes, spending time with “people” through books and instructional videos factors into your average.

Energy – Chasing and achieving your dream requires optimal levels of mental, physical, and spiritual ENERGY. Take care of yourself; no one else will.

Questions

  • Where is your aim these days?
  • Is it high enough?
  • Have you written it down so you can “P.E.A.C.E.” it?

1 Corinthians 12:31, “But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way.”
