The night before last I went to bed an hour prior to my normal time so I could get up early and spend an additional hour with God.
These past few months have put a tremendous amount of strain on my peace and serenity…I’m most likely not unique.
I don’t know about you but I know my serenity is being challenged when I find myself getting angry about stupid stuff — people, places, and things in which I have no control.
There is no bigger waste of the 86,400 seconds the Good Lord blesses us with each day than to be angry about something we have no control over…note to self.
My devotions led me to the following scriptures:
Romans 12:21, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (NIV)
Ephesians 4:1, “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” (NIV)
Ephesians 4:22-24, “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Ephesians 4:26, “In your anger, do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.
Ephesians 4:29-32, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
The words in bold in the above scripture were words I needed to hear.
Words I need to apply to my thoughts and deeds.
How about you?
Key Takeaways:
- The world is full of anger right now. Be determined to not be its fuel…or should I say fool?
- According to the Apostle Paul, you fight evil with good.
- If you are going to pour fuel on something, pour it on good.
How much more grievous are the consequences of anger than the causes of it?
