I remember a time many years ago when my wife and I were totally exhausted at the end of another day of getting our kids to their various activities. The biggest culprit of our exhaustion was our oldest son’s love of sports. He was a seventh grader at the time and was a member of a traveling baseball team, traveling basketball team, and the his school’s junior high track team.

In that moment we both came to the same conclusion, we had to reduce our son’s sports schedule or else we were going to go crazy. We sat him down and told him he could only participate in one sport per season. We figured this would devastate him.

Actually it was a relief for him. After putting some boundaries in place and clearing his plate of a few sports which were more social than competitive for him, he ended up becoming a really good basketball player and accomplished a dream he had of playing Division I college basketball.

Helping our son learn how to say “no” to distractions was pivotal in the accomplishment of his dream.

Focus is a huge part of accomplishing goals and dreams. Boundaries help sharpen our focus. Knowing what to say “no” to helps strengthen our boundaries.
