JUST SAY NO

The difference between successful people and really successful people is really successful people say "no" to almost everything that distracts them.

Reflection–this is an oldie but goody.

Many years ago, my wife and I were exhausted after another day of getting our kids to their various activities. Our oldest son’s love of sports was the biggest culprit of our exhaustion. He was a seventh grader at the time and was a member of a traveling baseball team, traveling basketball team, and his school’s junior high track team.

At that moment, we both came to the same conclusion: we had to reduce our son’s sports schedule or, else, we would go crazy. We sat him down and told him he could only participate in one sport per season. We figured this would devastate him.

Actually, it was a relief for him. After putting some boundaries in place and clearing his plate of a few more social than competitive sports, he became an outstanding basketball player. He accomplished a dream he had of playing Division I college basketball.

Helping our son learn to say “no” to distractions was pivotal in accomplishing his dream.

Focus is a huge part of accomplishing goals and dreams. Boundaries help sharpen our focus.

Knowing what to say “no” to helps strengthen our boundaries and gives us a better chance at accomplishing our BHAGS.

What people, places, and things do you need to say “no” to help you accomplish your 2025 BHAG?

Proverbs 29:18, “Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained.”
