BHAC Day 8 – Defeat…Not

When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal.

The past couple of weeks, I’ve been preparing a message I will deliver at The Next Step recovery service at Ginghamsburg Church tonight.

A theme that continues to resonate in my mind as I prayerfully considered the content of the message was the fact that our walk with Jesus does not make life easier. Our walk with Jesus makes us stronger, which in turn makes the ups and downs of life much easier to navigate.

One trait most of us with an addiction disorder has is a trait of defeatism. We try to get sober but we fail and when we fail we tend to give up and go full throttle back into our addiction in order to medicate our feelings derived from being a ‘failure.’

This all changes when we begin understanding Who Jesus is and what He wants for us. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly (Jesus from John 10:10).

Spoiler Alert: As you begin your journey in achieving your Big Hairy Audacious Commitment for 2019 there will be setbacks and feelings of defeat.

What you do with these setbacks and feelings will make all the difference.

Try turning them over to Jesus, adjust your plan, and keep on walking in the direction your BHAC is taking you.
