Crushing Fear – Day 30 – Indecision

How will you know it's the right decision if you never make it?

— Unknown —

This is day 30 in our Lenten Journey of crushing our fears one day at a time.

Fear of making a decision, which leads to a state of indecision, is a place the enemy loves for us to dwell. Indecision takes us nowhere fast.

I’ve observed people’s lives and organizations become paralyzed due to the inability to make a decision.

I loved the “Just Do It” campaign Nike had years ago.  It is in “doing” where great life-journeys begin and our passions are found.

Zig Ziglar once said, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”

Those who struggle with making decisions usually think they have to have everything figured out before they make a decision.  I’ve often found the best way to get things figured out is by doing something.

Please understand I am not a proponent for making knee-jerk, emotionally driven, thoughtless decisions.

There is a way to put careful thought into the decision making process.  Especially if we are talking about a major life decision.  The following six questions serve as a great litmus test in helping you make effective major life decisions:

  1. Is God routinely nudging me to do something I’m not comfortable doing?
  2. Have I confirmed with a spiritual accountability partner that this “nudge” is from God?
  3. Is what I’m about to do aligned with my life purpose (why I’m here)?
  4. Is what I’m about to do aligned with my life vision and goals (where I’m going)?
  5. Is what I’m about to do aligned with my guiding principles (what I stand for)?
  6. Is what I’m about to do aligned with my priorities (my key roles and responsibilities)?

If you answer yes to all six questions, it’s a GO!  (This decision making litmus-test also works great if you are leading a business.)

As Seth Godin says, “You don’t need more time in your day.  You need to decide.”

John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Reflection:

What beliefs, thoughts and actions cause you to struggle with indecision?

Additional Scripture to read and reflect upon:  James 1:8, 1 Kings 18:21, Matthew 6:24
