Daily focalPOINT – Eternal Anchor

“True faith allows us to have a grateful heart in all situations.”  ~JJM

I’ve often wondered what it would be like to not have an anchor like Jesus to depend on when life becomes challenging.

Yesterday morning I was reading an update posted by Hunter Heck’s mother on his progress after surviving a horrific accident several weeks ago.  The following is an excerpt from her Wednesday (11/7/12) post on Facebook’s “Pray for Hunter” site:

I am so proud of my son and I love him dearly. What he is going thru is so significant, yet he approaches it with grace and dignity, trusts in God and refuses to give up. He is ready to work hard and is in so much pain, yet he never complains. This journey has been a part of some of the greatest moments of my life and some of the worst moments of my life, but when I look at him, see him smile, see him accomplish things and see him look at me with determination in his eyes, I can’t help but feel like the luckiest mom in the world!!! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!!

Where is your faith anchored these days?  Is it in the world?  Is it in your job?  Is it in your spouse?  Is it in your professional sports team?  Is it in your government?  Is it in the President?  Is it in your kids?  Is it in your boss?  Is it in your friends?  Is in your home?  Is it in your money?  Is it in your addiction?  Is it in yourself (ouch!)?

The author of the book of Hebrews (13:8) tells us; “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.”  Earlier in Hebrews (6:19) the author writes; “This confidence (in God) is like a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.  It leads through the curtain of heaven into God’s inner sanctuary.”

True faith (confidence) allows us to let go of our worldly anchors and step into God’s inner sanctuary and be connected to the Eternal Anchor in all situations…Holy Cow!!!!

If you are there (in God’s inner sanctuary)…AWESOME…if you are anchored in the world and still joyous or upset about the the recent Presidential election and/or a myriad of other worldly “anchors;” take a step through the curtain and into God’s inner sanctuary.  You will find there are much bigger fish to fry and “a peace to surpass all understanding.”  (Philippians 4:7)

Paul tells us in Philippians (as Mrs. Heck quotes above), “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (4:13)  It is one thing to “mouth” this verse; it is another thing to believe it by living it.

If you want to experience the outcomes of Philippians you must first let go of your worldly anchors and yoke yourself to the one who can carry all your burdens and accelerate all your dreams…Christ.  Matthew 11:28, “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.'”

The next step is to study God’s word and allow Him to be first in your life.  Some of my favorite scripture on this topic comes from Philippians 3:7-4:23.  Click on the link and give it a good read and study.  If you begin living it, your life will be forever anchored to the eternal anchor…an anchor who will be the same today and tomorrow…regardless of who the President of the United States is…I write from experience.

Wishing you all a week of having grateful hearts!  Also, keep the prayers for Hunter and the entire Heck family rolling.  You can follow their faith journey on the “Pray for Hunter” Facebook site.
