Daily focalPOINT – Random Thoughts about Evil

“There is a saying in Tibetan, ‘Tragedy should be utilized as a source of strength.’  No matter what sort of difficulties, how painful experience it is, if we lose our hope, that’s our real disaster.”  ~Dalai Lama XIV

John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

I woke up yesterday morning still numb from the tragedy that had taken place the day before in Sandy Hook, Connecticut.

I remember about four and a half years ago having a shouting match about the “why?” behind evil with God.  This was after I learned one of my best friends in life had taken his life.  I really let God have it.  I demanded an answer and He gave it to me in a dream.

In the dream I was walking down a narrow alley and on each side of me was a brick wall.  Then suddenly one of the walls began to rise as if it was a curtain and as it slowly crept skyward I was exposed to the most nasty looking pit of filth, ugliness and horror I had ever seen.  After awakening I quickly determined God had revealed hell and/or evil to me and shared with me just how close it is in our lives.

What I viewed as a brick wall was nothing more than a centimeter wide curtain separating me from evil.  It was evil that had convinced my friend his only hope was death.  The good news is even in death caused by evil, God wins if we believe, and my friend believed.

Evil is always waiting to take us.  As Jesus states in the scripture above, evil has but one agenda and it is an agenda to steal, kill and destroy.  The murderer behind the deaths of 20 innocent little children and 7 others was full of evil…plain and simple.

Satan is very cunning and powerful.  If we give him an inch he will take a brick wall.  Satan is all around us but I believe he has made a permanent home in the “crap” we expose ourselves to through television, radio, the internet, social media and print material.

When I was a kid the most radical television show I watched was “The Three Stooges” and of course there was no internet or video games to play.  Today, we can’t go an hour in the evening without some type of “Crime Scene Investigation” show or sexually explicit “Reality TV Show” exposing us to the ways of evil.

In essence, the wall/curtain separating us from what evil looks like is slowly but surely disintegrating.  In some ways our hearts are becoming accepting of evil…which is exactly what satan desires.

I also believe the television news shows and other forms of news media should not be allowed to share any information about the killer in these senseless crimes as it only gives other evil-infested people a desire to gain notoriety through doing something just as horrific.

Bottom line…God beats Satan’s butt every day of the week but we must expose ourselves to God more than we do to evil in order for God to conquer evil in our individual lives.

The link below contains a list of scripture I read yesterday morning that helped me better understand evil and how to combat it with God.  I hope it helps you too.

Evil will not go away until the end of time and is always within inches of ruining our lives.  The good news is, God will NEVER go away and is ever present inside us and will help us grow our lives if we let Him.
