“The successful person has the habit of doing things failures don’t like to do. They don’t like doing them either necessarily; but their disliking is subordinated to the strength of their purpose.” ~E.M. Gray
This is my favorite quote on discipline. The last word of the quote is key and many people fail to identify their purpose in life.
Many years ago I wrote my life vision statement: “To make a positive difference in God’s world in all of my roles and responsibilities.” Then I identified my roles and responsibilities: Son of God, Husband, Dad, Son, Brother, Family Man, Leader and Friend.
A solid vision statement combined with your roles and responsibilities turns into your life purpose(s).
Do you have a vision statement? Have you identified your responsibilities? If not, you probably do not know what your purpose is and without purpose there is no need to have discipline.
Define your purpose and discipline will follow…I write from experience.
