Happy Dad’s Day!

Happy Father’s Day!

On this 2014 Father’s Day morning, I am “treating” myself to a Triathlon at beautiful Maummee Bay State Park on the shores of Lake Erie.

The triathlon I am participating in today is a special one for me.maumee

First of all it is Father’s Day and next to being a husband, there is no greater responsibility that I have than to be the best Dad I can be for my kids.  As far as I’m concerned there are no “days off” when it comes to being a good Dad.  As a Dad we only get one shot to raise our kids and then we find out how well we did by observing the lives they go on to live.  Some Dad’s enjoy a round of golf on Father’s Day, I enjoy a good swim, a bike (with pedals) ride and a run.

The other reason this particular triathlon is special for me is it is a fundraiser for a good cause.  The race I’m competing in is put on by “Racing for Recovery” and was founded by a recovery alcoholic and addict with a story I can relate to.  Drug addiction has reached epidemic proportions and any little thing I can do to make an impact in slowing the epidemic down, I will do.

BTW…Exercise has and will always be a huge part of my recovery.  It aids tremendously in keeping the “committee in my head” adjourned and at peace.  I don’t like exercising without a good reason to do it and is the reason I still compete, or should I say participate 🙂 in triathlons.

I want to give a special shout-out to my Dad and my father-in-law, as I’ve been blessed with the best and I also want to thank my wonderful wife and kids who’ve made being a Dad exciting, fun and quite fulfilling…I came real close to blowing it all and am so grateful on this special day.
