Fear & Instant Gratification

The chief cause of failure and unhappiness is trading what you want most for what you want right now.

— Zig Ziglar —

God at Center-Mental PPTWe continue to reflect on excerpts from my book FEAR-PROOF as we study the Mental component of our Wheel of Life.  As our thoughts go, so goes our life…

“The chief cause of failure and unhappiness is trading what you want most for what you want right now.”  ~Zig Ziglar

As my first business partner often reminded me, “slow and steady wins the race.”

It’s amazing how many great things have happened in my life when I’ve overcome the urge to obtain short-term fixes.

Deciding to wait and instead seek out God and His direction for long term “greats” and/or eternal blessings has created many “greats” in my life and prevented me from settling for the short term “goods.”

Having a God-inspired plan for your life with a focus on achieving the plan is the best way to overcome the urges to waste time and money on today’s urgencies, which normally have nothing to do with your long term plan.

Picture what you would like for your life to look like five, ten and even twenty years from now.  Pray for God’s guidance in developing a plan to attain this vision for your life.  Plan your daily life accordingly and practice patience, execution and discipline one day at a time in order to overcome the urge of trading your long term “greats” for short term and temporary “goods.”

Proverbs 21:5 (NIV), “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.”

Additional Scripture to read and reflect upon:  Romans 5:3-4, James 1:12-18, Hebrews 10:36

What beliefs, thoughts and actions cause you to struggle with instant gratification?
