Gratitude and Pain

If you feel pain, you are alive. But if you feel the pain of others, you are human.

— Leo Tolstoy —

Reflection

Monday night, my body was aching, and I was delighted.

For those of you who follow EageLaunch, I’ve shared the challenges I faced with my heart and my most recent bicycle crash. Both put a damper on my ability to exercise at a high level, which is something I enjoy doing…call me crazy, but it’s who I am. 🙂

This past weekend marked the first time in months that I felt good enough to stress my body with intense exercise, and I did just that—and WOW! I was sore, and better than that, I was grateful to be sore.

As I was basking in the kind of pain I hadn’t felt in some time, I was reminded of those who were experiencing real pain this holiday season. Pain from disease, pain from family separation, pain from economic insecurity, pain from food insecurity, pain from a loved one immersed in an addictive disorder, pain from abuse, pain from neglect…name the pain and someone is currently battling it.

As Tolstoy notes in the opening quote, be human and aware of others’ pains, and even better, turn those pains over to the ultimate Healer early and often every day.

For my prayer warriors out there, I have a special friend who has been overtaken by the enemy. We know the enemy has no hope against God. Please pray for God to break the stronghold the enemy currently has on my friend.

1 John 3:8, “Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.”
