Guiding Principles & Boundaries

It's not hard to make decisions once you know what your values are.

— Roy Disney —

Our core values and beliefs (guiding principles) show us the way.

Our guiding principles attract us to other people and/or organizations with similar values.

Our guiding principles help us determine who our friends are.

Our guiding principles help us decide who we follow and who we don’t follow.

Our guiding principles prevent us from having multiple personalities.

Our guiding principles serve as guard rails and prevent us (if we follow them) from going off track.

Once we claim our guiding principles and commit to living them the decision making process becomes much easier.

What do you stand for?

What traits do you want others to admire in you without you ever having to say a word about them?

Psalm 15:1-5 (MSG), “God, who gets invited to dinner at your place?  How do we get on your guest list?  ‘Walk straight, act right, tell the truth.  Don’t hurt your friend, don’t blame you neighbor; despise the despicable.  Keep your word even when it costs you, make an honest living, never take a bribe.  You’ll never get blacklisted if you live like this.”

If you are struggling with where to start when it comes to naming and claiming your guiding principles maybe the words of David above can serve as your beginning.
