I saw the opening quote by Simon Sinek the day after I read an article about people who pay money in order to boost the number of followers they have on social media.
We live in a very self-absorbed world.
Our world and the people who live in it, (you and I), take over 90 million selfies each day. If you are in the minority and do not know what a selfie is, it is when a person takes a picture of her or himself.
The devil has done a marvelous job of getting us to focus on ourselves through the use of social media. Even when people do good deeds for others, they are posting it on their social media accounts.
You could chalk this post up to me simply being a grumpy old man, but this old man has lived long enough to know when we shine the spotlight on ourselves, there’s little light to shine on those who need it the most.
Challenge yourself to spend a week looking out for the interest of others without telling a soul…that’s what living for God is all about.
Philippians 2:4, “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”Â
Heavenly Father, I live in a very self-absorbed world. Please help me overcome my selfish, self-absorbed desires and ways. Please open my eyes and heart to the needs of others. Give me the willingness to give more than I take. Please replace me at the center of my universe with You. I pray this in the name of the universe’s most humble servant, Jesus Christ. Amen.Â
