Lent, Peace, and Finding Peace

One thing about God, he often talks to us without saying a thing. But our heart has trouble hearing Him if it is not at peace.

The opening thought came to me after completing my first bicycle ride of 2020.

This past Thursday was a beautiful day and I decided to “shelter in place” with nature by riding my bike on the Great Miami River bike trail.

I wasn’t alone. There were hundreds of people walking and biking that day. The spirit of the trail was quite different on this particular day when compared to other days when it’s been highly congested.

Very few were looking at their cell phones. The ones with kids were actually paying attention to their kids. As we passed we all acknowledged our existence with a smile and a “hello.”

I found myself riding slower and appreciating the world around me.

I also did a lot of praying.

I found peace in His nature and His people.

Yesterday morning I read the following translation in my Bible about Philippians 4:7:

God’s peace is different from the world’s peace. True peace is not found in positive thinking, in absence of conflict, or in good feelings. It comes from knowing that God is in control.

Where do you go in order to be certain that God is in control?

It is there where you will find peace.

Spoiler alert…you won’t find peace in watching the news 24/7. 🙂

Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Journal your thoughts:

What am I grateful for today?

In what way(s) will I bring light to the world today?

What will I deny myself so I may draw closer to God and gain more peace in my life today?

Prayer:

God, I offer myself to Thee—To build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always! Amen.
