Lent Day 18 – Peace and Lighting Our Nights

Faith is a plant that can grow in the shade, a grace that you can find the way to heaven in a dark night.

— William Gurnall —

Reflection

Faith definitely gives us the ability to find heaven on a dark night.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had my fair share of “dark nights,” none darker than when I was immersed in my drug addiction many years ago with little to no faith in God.

I’m grateful I survived those dark and nightmarish times in my life, and after finally accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior, the dark nights are no longer as dark because with Him, just like Motel 6, the Light is always on.

Are dark nights robbing you of your peace?

If so, flip His light switch to “on” and never turn it off.

John 1:5, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

Journal your thoughts:

What am I grateful for today?

In what way(s) will I bring light to the world today?

What will I deny myself to draw closer to God and gain more peace in my life today?

Prayer:

God, I offer myself to Thee—To build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always! Amen.
