When I saw the opening quote it reminded me of something I’ve been doing during my morning time with the Lord the past few years.
I have several Bibles and could easily be accused of having a Bible addiction but over the past couple of years I have settled on one Bible and the one I use is pocket-sized with small print.
Wondering why I settled on that particular Bible…especially if you are someone who knows I’m basically blind without some form of sight enhancement lenses?
Read on…
Every morning, I read the Proverb for the day. There are 31 Proverbs and today I will be reading scripture from Proverbs 13.
When I go to my Bible to read the Proverb, due to my Bible’s small print, I have to take my glasses off and I place the Bible very near to my face so that I am able to read it. Although I am nearly blind when it comes to seeing anything beyond a few inches from my eyes without my glasses or contact lenses, I have the absolute keenest eyesight when I am reading something that is nearly touching my nose.
There is a moral to this story…
For as long as I can remember, my spirit is calmed whenever I am reading His word. But when I place His word within a couple of inches from my eyes, my spirit hits an entirely deeper level of calm and peace. I find myself better able to absorb what He is trying to teach me.
The devil loves to distract us. I’ve always been easily distracted and have had to find ways to outsmart the devil when he is trying to pull me off course. This is just one of several tricks I’ve developed over the years.
Now back to the opening quote.
What are you doing to keep God’s word central to your life?
Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Journal your thoughts:
What am I grateful for today?
In what way(s) will I bring light to the world today?
What will I deny myself so I may draw closer to God and gain more peace in my life today?
Prayer:
God, I offer myself to Thee—To build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always! Amen.
