Lent, Peace, and Mind Rambling

For thousands of years, writers, poets, philosophers, and theologians have been advocating their particular methods or techniques for silencing the noise within us. They all came to more or less the same conclusion that decent peace of mind can only be attained by subduing the ramblings of the mind, even if only for a minute or two.

Have you ever taken the time to truly listen to your thoughts? It is estimated that human beings average having over 60,000 thoughts a day.

I don’t know about you, but my mind is like a bad neighborhood; I shouldn’t go there alone. Thus the reason I begin my day in a quiet state connecting to God and asking for His protection and guidance over my life which includes the thoughts I think.

Be conscious of what you are thinking because if you leave your thoughts unchecked they will rob you of your peace…I write from experience.

Colossians 3:15, “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

Journal your thoughts:

What am I grateful for today?

In what way(s) will I bring light to the world today?

What will I deny myself so I may draw closer to God and gain more peace in my life today?

Prayer:

God, I offer myself to Thee—To build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always! Amen.
