Less For Lent

The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.

— Hans Hofmann —

The season of Lent begins tomorrow. Lent is a Christian observance where we deny our flesh and nourish our spirit daily in order to draw closer to the Lord in anticipation of His resurrection on Easter.

In the past, I have devoted much time and energy to my Lenten writings. This year the Lord has laid it on my heart to keep the writings simple with a focus on PEACE.

The world is in quite a bit of turmoil at this point in time. Actually, it’s always been in turmoil and conflict but people now have the ability to use their social media platforms as accelerants for the fuel that keeps the turmoil going.

The devil loves turmoil.

God loves peace.

Peace conquers turmoil and controversy every day of the week and for the next six and a half weeks I will be floating thoughts about peace your way on a daily basis.

My format will be quite simple as I will share a quote, a quick personal thought on the quote, a scripture verse, three questions for you to answer (in hopes of deepening your Lenten journey) while closing it with a prayer I’ve been praying every morning for over thirty years.

If you know of anyone who could use some peace, please forward my morning thoughts to them.

Back to the opening quote–I hope our journey through Lent helps you identify and eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary will speak to you and lead you to a life of peace.

John 16:33, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
