Will vs. Want

The best way to turn good into great is to speak “will” instead of “want.”

Reflection

Years ago, I can remember having this vision for our pharmacy, and it was all about wanting to become a world-class, highly respected nursing home pharmacy.

At that moment, I decided to turn our want into will by speaking will instead of want.

From that point on, instead of thinking and speaking in terms of “wanting to become,” we all began to speak in terms of “we will become.” And I believe it is safe to say it made all the difference.

Question

Which are more powerful statements?

I want to own my own business, or I will own my own business.

I want to be a great spouse, or I will be a great spouse.

I want to lose weight, or I will lose weight.

I want to do good in the world, or I will do good in the world.

I want to follow Jesus, or I will follow Jesus.

What do you want to become? Whatever it is–write it down.

Then change your vocabulary and begin speaking in terms of what you will be.

Slowly but surely, your want will be replaced by your will.
