November Energy and Embracing Discomfort

It's good to do uncomfortable things. It's weight training for life.

— Anne Lamont —

Last Thursday, I was able to get in what was quite possibly my final bike (with pedals) ride for the year. The sun was shining brightly, the temperature was in the low 60’s, and the autumn colors were still sparkling.

The only challenge was a wind from the south with gusts exceeding 30mph, and the first half of this particular ride required me to head directly into the teeth of this mighty wind tunnel.

Just a few miles into my ride, I wondered whether or not I should continue, but I quickly overcame the urge to quit by thinking about how my legs and mental toughness were about to receive powerful workouts.

I also could hardly wait to reach the halfway point of my ride so I could turn around and ride with the same 30mph gale at my back.

The opening quote is so true.

We can’t grow by being comfortable.

During this month of focusing on our energy, I’ve challenged you all to do whatever it takes to care for your spiritual, mental, and physical beings.

We have energy when we are spiritually, mentally, and physically fit.

If you lack energy and know you need to begin nurturing the three critical pieces of your being, get ready for some discomfort in the beginning. Try gratefully embracing the discomfort, knowing that at some point, it will disappear, and the mental toughness you develop through the process will be like a wind at your back.

I always write from experience.

Mark 4:39, “And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”
