Reflection and Some Random (Deep and a Bit Crazy) Thoughts
As I grow closer to the exit of my earthly life–said differently, as I grow old–I struggle with what this (life) is all about!?
After all, we will all die; after we die, we will be remembered for a brief period, and then we will be like the picture my wife pulled out of her Mother’s belongings. The image is of a person, most likely a family member, in the 1800s. Lori and I both looked at that picture and sighed, wishing someone would have told us about the history of the _____ family. Fill in the blank with your various family names.
The reality of the term “dust to dust” often makes me scratch my head and wonder why in the world we are placed on this earth. Our life is nothing more than a grain of sand on a massive beach; if we are lucky, it is from the beach at Siesta Key, Florida (IMO). 🙂
Then I ran into a friend the other day and asked how her family was. She responded, “Great, things are going well.”
I helped her husband with some life challenges for a brief period many years ago–before he had a wife and family. He’s done amazing things with his life, and because of his profession, he has been blessed to impact a thousand or so lives along his journey positively.
If you take 25% of those 1,000 lives (250) my friend impacted and considered they could perhaps impact another thousand people, each, in their lifetimes–the total impact this man has had is growing close to a quarter of a million people.
Now that’s remarkable.
Just by giving someone a hand.
I believe God wired us to love Him and our neighbors–first and foremost, last and last most. And we can do this until we take our final breath while on our earthly journey.
It’s up to us whether or not we carry out this calling and to what degree we do it.
Being kind and loving others is a reason to live.
Now be remarkable by using your gifts to help someone in need.
Oh, and that person in that family picture. She is most likely a part of the lineage that created Lori, and Lori saved my life by throwing my butt in a treatment center thirty-five years ago.
Don’t ever think the good you do for someone today isn’t carried on in some form decades and centuries later.
Thank you for allowing me to work through this and get this out of my system. 🙂
Philippians 2:4, “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
