Reflection
If you’ve read the story of Jesus’ birth you can’t help but scratch your head wondering what Mary, a virgin teenager, must have thought when an angel appeared and informed her she was pregnant.
and
You can’t help but scratch your head twice or maybe even three times wondering what Joseph thought when he found out that his virgin wife was pregnant.
I’m assuming they both experienced a slew of different emotions and feelings.
I’m guessing that the feeling that hit them the hardest was disappointment.
If I were Joseph I probably would have not only been extremely disappointed but very angry at God for impregnating my fiancee.
but
Their faith pulled them through.
They trusted God and their disappointment in God’s meddling in their affairs turned into the greatest divine appointment in human history.
Thought
How many times has life delivered a disappointment only for God to turn it into a divine appointment?
Sitting in front of me playing with his favorite ball from Christmas is our son Jordan. Jordan is one of a handful of life disappointments that God turned into a divine appointment for me.
I could go on and on.
Facts
What we want from our lives and what God needs from our lives does not always align.
This year has delivered more disappointment to all of us than ever before.
Somewhere in all the disappointments is God.
Just like the little boy who walked into a barn with his grandpa, and while staring at a huge pile of manure, said, “There’s got to be a pony in that pile of manure somewhere Grandpa.”
It’s OK to be disappointed.
Just don’t stay there.
Have faith.
Trust God.
And look for the pony.
Sometimes good things do indeed fall apart so that better things can fall together…I always write from experience.
Genesis 50:20, “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present outcome, that many people would be kept alive [as they are this day.”
