Self Respect or Interest?

You do not wake up one morning a bad person. It happens by a thousand tiny surrenders of self-respect to self-interest.

— Robert Brault —

I love the quote above by Robert Brault and is why I tell everyone I work with whether it be someone I coach, advise or mentor…always try to do the next right thing.

If you struggle with recognizing what “the next right thing” is, I suggest you pray early and often for God’s guidance and find a good coach or a mentor who can help.

If you compromise on your values enough times your life ends up being one big compromise…I write from experience as that was where I was twenty-seven years ago.

If you haven’t already done this, write on a piece of paper what you stand for.  In other words, put your life values and principles in writing.  These serve as the boundaries of your playing field of life and will help you overcome the temptation to surrender your self-respect.

Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is living and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
