Want to Will

The best way to turn average into excellence is to speak “will” instead of “want.”

— JJM —

Years ago I can remember having this vision for our business and it was all about wanting to become one of the most highly regarded and respected businesses in our industry.  In that moment, I decided to turn that “want” into a “will” and the rest, they say, is history.

Instead of thinking and speaking in terms of “wanting to become,” we all began to speak in terms of “we will become.”  And I believe it is safe to say it worked.

Which are more powerful statements?

I want to own my own business or I will own my own business.

I want to be a great spouse or I will be a great spouse.

I want to follow Jesus or I will follow Jesus.

I want to lose weight or I will lose weight.

I want to play professional sports or I will play professional sports

What do you want to become?  Write it down.  Then change your vocabulary and begin speaking in terms of what you will be.  Slowly but surely you gravitate away from your “want’ and grow into your “will.”  I always write from experience.

Interesting…achieving excellence in anything is often determined by the 3 letters that follow W in your vocabulary…simple stuff.
