Reflection
When I saw the opening quote, it reminded me of a state of mind I found myself in a couple of days ago. I had allowed myself to become extremely frustrated about a life situation that I had absolutely no control.
I’ve lived with my thoughts long enough to know that whenever I become frustrated, the committee in my head immediately calls a board meeting and says, “Let’s get ready to rumble!”
I quickly adjourned the board meeting through prayer and a quick look at all I have to be grateful for.
BTW…Gratitude and frustration/anxiety cannot coexist.
Back to the opening quote
We have a choice in how we handle the trials of life.
In fact, we even have a choice in whether or not we consider a life situation a “trial.”
Some of our “trials” are nothing compared to what the people of Ukraine are experiencing.
Question
When misfortune hits home, do you fuel its strength and burden with an anxious and angry mind, or do you rob its strength and burden with a calm, cool, and collected mind?
Sometimes God calms the storm. Â Sometimes He lets the storm rage and calms His child.
Psalm 107:29-30 “He calmed the storm and its waves quieted down. So they rejoiced that the waves became quiet, and he led them to their desired haven.â€
Journal your thoughts:
What am I grateful for today?
In what way(s) will I bring light to the world today?
What will I deny myself so I may draw closer to God and gain more peace in my life today?
Prayer:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardship as the pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will.
That I may be reasonably happy in this life, and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen.
