Recently the cell group of which I am a part of was discussing the struggles of knowing when to give and when not to give. When does giving become enabling? Is the person you are giving to going to use what you gave them the way you would want them to use it. Should I give if I am in debt? etc… etc… etc…
I have to ask the question…do you (the one or two people that actually read my blog) really think anything you have is yours? Years ago I finally was able to grasp the concept that everything I “owned” was actually on loan to me from God. I am blessed with a beautiful home surrounded by a beautiful setting and even though I “own” it on paper it is on loan to me from God. My goal is to make the home and setting even more beautiful for the people that will live in it after we move on and hopefully for other families that may enjoy it in the years to come.
My wife and I have given a significant portion of our first fruits (gross income not net income) to God and his various children for a number of years and have never thought twice about it. I’ve handed money to a stranger more than once and never batted an eye. When I do that I am simply passing on a blessing my God gave me. Why do I do it? For no other reason than the spirit moves me to do it. I am not posting this blog to bring favor upon me and let you all know how “giving” I am. I am simply passing a blessing on to you that was passed to me years ago. It is definitely much more blessed to give than it is to receive. (Acts 20:35) An attitude of giving makes life so much more enjoyable to live.
